Hello!  Remember that tomorrow is a day off for students!  Thank you for remembering boots and snow pants today!  Winter has arrived :)

Reading: In reading this week we are are thinking about our keywords in our books and practicing talking about them.  Students are using post-its to mark up their books as reminders to talk about them with their partners.  We will also use drama to help bring our books to life.  At the end of the week we will celebrate by reading to another class.  

Writing: In writing this week we are getting ready to publish. We are picking out some of our favorite pieces and revising by adding more or taking away. We are also using our revision checklist that we created as a class. We are also going to edit to make our writing easy to read and share with others! 

Word Study: This week we are in Unit 5.  Our new trick words this week are have, from, do and does.  We also have learned two new glued sounds.  Glued sounds are two letters that are hard to hear separate.  This week we are practicing am and an.  Today I am sending home a Unit 5 packet for you to take a look at.  

Math: This week in math we are practicing strategies to help with our math facts.  The hope is that these strategies will help students become fluent.  We will also be practicing more story problems. 

Content:  We are beginning our new unit on the Sun and the Moon.  This week we will learn about the day and night sky.  We will learn about the atmosphere and space.

Keep a bag of books handy to grab before leaving to watch a sibling play a sport. “Stream” a series - check out books in a series from the library. Play “Book Club” - set up a book club as part of a play date. Try organizing your books at home into fun categories like: Book that make you LOL, Gross Things, Tear Jerkers, Books that Make you Laugh, Family Favorites…. May 21st

Hello, Next week Wednesday, May 30th, is our Community Field Trip.  Thank you to all who volunteered to join us! For those of you who aren’t able to join us all day, we will be eating lunch at 12:00 at Horseshoe Park.  If you have some time, feel free to stop down and join us! We know that this is a later lunch than usual for first graders but we will be eating several snacks on our stop at the Piggly Wiggly in the morning.  We are excited to learn more about our community and celebrate a fun year in first grade! April 30th

Hello, Here comes May! I am hoping the weather cooperates and we keep getting those warmer temps. I am going to be sending home all winter gear that is still in their lockers: snow pants, boots, mittens, hats, etc. Be on the lookout for those.
