Reading: We will begin our new reading unit this week: Meeting Characters and Learning Lessons.  We will begin with taking a sneak peek and thinking about the reading adventure that the characters will go on.  We will predict what will happen in our books and when we finish reading check our predictions with a retell of the important parts in our book.

Writing: This week we are finishing up our poetry unit.  We are excited to share our favorite poem with you at Authors Breakfast on Thursday. We will then begin a new writing unit which is writing realistic fiction stories.  In the beginning we will work on planning our writing and thinking about the characters that we want to use in our stories.

Word Study:  We began Unit 8 this week.  We are learning about blends in words and practicing it in our spelling.  We also learned about R Controlled vowels like ar in car and or in horn. Students are just expected to recognize and read these sounds, the spelling of them will come later.

Math:  This week we are reviewing and taking our math test.  We will begin unit 6 later in the week.  We will begin this unit with collecting data and looking at the results.  Later in the unit we will be solving comparison story problems.

Content: This week in social studies we are finishing our US symbols unit. Students will research a US symbol that interests them and make a poster to share their findings!

Let me know if you have any questions.
