Purple- 4k

Reading: In reading this week we will be finishing up our Unit 4, meeting new characters and learning lessons. To start this week we grouped together books by the lessons they taught. We were comparing books and organizing them. We will also learn about how readers share their opinions about books and plan out a book introduction. We will introduce the book to the other first grade class on Friday as a celebration!

Writing: This week we are finishing up our Realistic Fiction writing unit.  We are making sure that we have a complete series that includes at least three books about our characters.  We are using a checklist to make sure that we are including details and dialogue.  At the end of the week we will do the finishing publishing piece and package the books together with our scenerys and props.

Word Study: This weeks trick words to practice at home are: say, could, they, from, over.  This week we will focus on the vowel teams of oi and oy.

Math: In math this week we are continuing with our new unit. We have been exploring methods or strategies to solve 2-Digit addition problems. For example 23+45. Students have been using their knowledge of place value to help them solve. We will also be working on what happens when you add the ones place and it creates a new group of 10. Here is a picture of our poster we have been using in math:

Science: Like cars on a road, boats on a bay use color and sound to find their way around. This week students will explore their own skills of watching and listening, and practice some of the words of the sounds they hear every day.
